Grade 4 maths is where the three ways of writing the same quantity โ€” a half, 0.5, 50% โ€” finally have to become one idea in a child's head. Most curricula teach them as three separate topics in three separate terms. This one teaches them together, in a single unit, with a conversion triangle the child fills in themselves.

Long multiplication is the other landmark. It is introduced late in the autumn term, deliberately after estimation is secure, so that a child who writes 2,400 ร— 30 = 720 notices the answer is wrong without being told.
