✖️Oxford Mathematics Grade 2

Grade 2 is a fluency year. The content is not conceptually hard, but it has to become fast — a child who still counts on fingers for 6 × 5 will struggle with everything built on top of it. This course allocates five minutes of every session to timed recall and keeps a visible tables tracker so progress is obvious.

Alongside the drill work, problems get longer. Two-step questions appear from unit two, deliberately early, because the skill of holding a partial answer in mind while doing a second operation needs a full year to mature.

• Recall the 2, 3, 5 and 10 times tables and their division facts
• Add and subtract three-digit numbers using written methods

How it is taught

Tables are taught in the order 10, 5, 2, 4, 3, 8 — easiest patterns first — and each new table is immediately turned into its division facts rather than left as a separate topic.
