✒️Grade 2 English: Grammar & Comprehension

The jump from writing sentences to writing paragraphs is the whole of Grade 2 English. It sounds small. It is not — it requires holding a topic in mind across four or five sentences and resisting the urge to change subject halfway through.

This course teaches it explicitly, with topic sentences first, then supporting detail, then editing. Comprehension work runs alongside on a three-week cycle of fiction, non-fiction and poetry so no text type gets neglected.

What your child will be able to do

By the end of this course, a learner working at the expected pace will be able to:

• Write a coherent paragraph on one topic
• Use commas in lists, apostrophes for contractions, and inverted commas for speech
• Extend sentences with conjunctions and adverbs

Every writing task is marked against a four-point checklist your child can apply themselves before handing it to you. Self-editing is treated as a taught skill, not an instruction ('check your work') that children cannot actually follow.
